… another Sunday morning …

… it is Sunday morning in the part of the world where i lay my head.  it is 4:00 and i am doing my morning readings, and checking up on a few friends around the world.

… there is my friend in Bangladesh.  there is much violence in his country and the strikes are causing much difficulty day to day.  his father has had some very difficult health problems, and they lack funds to receive proper care.

The needy… then there are the orphans in Uganda.  my friend who runs the orphanage has told me that they are out of fire wood to cook food, and are ready to finish the little bit of beans they have left.  it is difficult to take care of 150+ orphan children, but that is what he knows he must do.  if not them, then who?

… my homeless friend in South Carolina comes to mind next.  the last i heard, the police had raided his tent and threw his few belongings out.  they are making it illegal to be homeless there.  they have ‘relocated’ many homeless into FEMA camps outside of town.

… then there is my friend in Faisalabad, Pakistan.  he works among the 10,000+ street children in his city.  they seldom have proper clothing and food.  many of these children grew up on the trash dumps around the city.  abortion is illegal there, and when people have a child they do not want, they leave them on the trash heap.  right now he is seeking someone who can sponsor this child.  a week ago, we were able to purchase his freedom from the man who owned him.  he was a slave making bricks.  there is a desperate need to get him into a school, or he may end up back in slavery..

… then my friend in Karachi, Pakistan.  she is a school teacher in the public school system there.  on weekends she goes out into the country and works with the slave children and their families.  a couple of weeks ago, she was able to secure the freedom of a whole family.  she uses as much of her USD$200/month salary to free people from slavery.  this particular family, she arranged housing for, set the father up in his own ‘green grocery’ business selling produce, and secured proper clothing and expenses to send one child to school.

… on the 2nd of this month, my teacher friend wrote me this message:

work“Dear Brother currently i have data of some 3 urgent families , i have been praying to help them . recently when i visited this family, Head of family is (name removed for security) His wife and two son , (person)’s Brother have tumors on every part of his body . he can not even sit or lay down But he is forced to work He said sometimes when i sit some of tumors burst which is really Painful , Their total debt is $473.”

… we were able to secure funds to pay off the debt last week.  she just informed me that she is waiting for her salary to be able to get the children in school and secure basic needs of the family when they are freed.

… then i look at the website of the ‘church‘ i used to attend.  a large portion of my ‘facebook friends’ are, or were, members of that group.  i see their bookstore is offering “8 Steps to Create the Life You Want” by Dr. Creflo Dollar for only $5.   he recently was quoted as saying “Poverty, is ungodly.” he was recently under scrutiny for requesting funding to purchase the $65Million jet that he ‘desperately needs’.

… and i shed a tear …

… i  go back to my reading of what the early Church Fathers wrote, and believed, and i read:

” … it is monstrous for one to live in luxury, while many are in want. How much more glorious is it to do good to many, than to live sumptuously! How much wiser to spend money on human beings, than on jewels and gold!”  Clement of Alexandria.

… it is a quote from the writing called ‘The Instructor, 2.13″ written around the year 153 AD.  Chapter 13 of his second book is called “Against excessive fondness for jewels and gold ornaments.”  because i can, i put it online so you can read it as well, if you like.

… it is our responsibility what we do.  it is our responsibility what we believe.  we can choose to believe the teachings of those who lived with the Apostles and Christ, or the preachers who drive luxury autos and live in mansions who believe that it is their ‘destiny’ to ‘rule and reign’ here on earth now….

… and i shed another tear …

Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.– Jesus (Matthew 7:21–23, NLT)

Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you. Your wealth is rotting away, and your fine clothes are moth-eaten rags. Your gold and silver are corroded. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh like fire. This corroded treasure you have hoarded will testify against you on the day of judgment. For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. The cries of those who harvest your fields have reached the ears of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter. You have condemned and killed innocent people, who do not resist you.” (James 5:1–6, NLT)

.. i was born into an average family in the mid-west of the United States of America. my parents were divorced when i was young. ... i have been fortunate to have experienced many things that only the rich get to see. i once stayed in the Presidential Suite of the Lai Lai Sheraton Hotel, in Taipei, Taiwan. this suite composed the top two floors of the Lai Lai, where my private room overlooked the city of Taipai. ... and i have spent time in the Federal Prison System of this country as well. ... i had a construction company on the road to 'success and prosperity' and fell pray to the lures of the American Christianity Syndrome. but thank the good LORD, He allowed it all to crash around me. ... now i am quite happy to be poor, relying only on Him ....
